The Ghost of a Future Dead - At the Gates, 2026

 

God, I really hate that I have to say this, but this album is the definition of mid. It isn't bad at all, just not special, not noteworthy, not something I'd revisit. I never really liked At the Gates that much, or even Gothenburg-esque death metal in general, so my opinion is biased.

I was really hoping that Tomas Lindberg would go out with a bang. His vocals were never my favorite but this is my least favorite performance. I am aware he was fighting for his life at the time of this recording, but I am not here to give sympathy points, I am here to rate the music as it is: Weak vocals, sounds the same throughout, boring.

I have just never been a fan of this band, and this album just reminded me why.
