Released in 2022, At Any Cost! Anthology 1995-2005 is a compilation of notable songs from the Polish black metal project Capricornus that was active between 1995 and 2005. This compilation has songs from from the EP Stahlgewitter (1999), the split with Aryan Blood (1999), and the split with Der Sturmer (2003). Capricornus's music is characterized by it's raw and lofi production which makes the music sound more agressive in a way. One of my favorite things about this compilation is the opening track "Blut ist Leben" (Blood is Life) which is an instrumental originally from Stahlgewitter. I think it is a great addition to the compiltation because it does a great job at setting the tone for the rest to come. This track blends seamlessly into "In Stahlgewittern" (In Steel Storms) which is a pretty solid black metal track (also from Stahlgewitter). I like how this compilation blends the earlier more primtive tracks with the later songs that are more refined like "Sun Wheel on the Helmet of Steel" (originally from the split with Der Sturmer). Like any NSBM act, the lyrics are about nationalism and the fight for the white race. I particularly like the lyrics of "Blut und Ehre" (Blood and Honor) and "Der Sieg wird unser sein" (Victory will be ours). The lyrics tell the white man to wake up and fight, which goes together with the cover art of warriors fighting in battle. This compilation did a great job at showing all sides of Capricornus. Overall, pretty solid release in NSBM standards.
